Niri Zach is not only a great teacher of the Hebrew language and Jewish culture but also someone who creates a friendly and lively environment that I look forward to rejoining each week. I started from scratch two years ago and plan to continue.

I have been taking Hebrew with Niri since last summer. She covers the "proper" vocabulary and grammar but also tells you the way that Israelis really speak. I have learned a lot - and we speak Hebrew in class, very little English. She also shares stories about growing up in Israel. She is fun to learn from.

Niri's class is something that I look forward to every week. Her emphasis is on learning the contemporary living Hebrew in a relaxed conversational environment. With the first words that we learned at the beginning we could introduce ourselves to people, say who we are and ask how they are doing.

Niri is responsive to the needs of individual students. Activities vary and keep us engaged and participating. For example, the class opens with us telling each other about our lives, then we read a text and discuss it. Niri explains new vocabulary or grammar from the text, and we end the class with exercises or a crossword puzzle.

In Niri's class we learn about life in Israel, culture, holidays and occasionally a recipe. Her classes are a fun way to learn the language from scratch, a treat for the brain and something for me to look forward to.

Niri has been teaching our kids, 9 and 11 years old, for the past 4 years. Their reading and writing in Hebrew has developed and progressed tremendously as well as their love for the language. Niri has become a friend and the kids love her. She always accommodates our kids and family’s needs and it has been a wonderful experience with her being a part of our kids education and immersion in Israeli culture.

I am a long time student of six years and always look forward to class. I appreciate Niri’s patience which makes it easier to absorb information, especially when it relates to every day activities and understanding how to speak about them in Hebrew. The classes are fun and always custom tailored for each person’s needs. For example, in one of the classes I took, one student asked for a lesson on current events in Israel. Niri was able to introduce some advanced concepts and vocabulary in a comprehensive, balanced manner. Other classes have included practical Hebrew conversation relating to travel, restaurants and shopping. Niri compliments the class by including songs, poetry and folklore for those who are interested. She creates a welcoming flexible environment for different types of learners.
